OUR MISSION

Bucket List Community Café is an online community journalism site for Denver.  We are hyperlocal, neighborly news and have a unique niche at the intersection of community and journalism.  Everyone has a story, and we build community by sharing our stories.  We are Denver’s home for information, inspiration, and interaction.  We share news, issues, culture, events, people, pets, food, fun and more so that you can know what is happening on your street and across town.  We strive to represent the diverse voices within our community.

WHAT WE COVER

Bucket List Community Café is committed to sharing news and issues that matter to people in our area such as climate change, food insecurity, homelessness, affordability, inequities, gentrification, growth, and impacts of the economy.  But we also love to have fun, meet people, go out to community events, and see what’s happening in the city and neighborhoods.  You might have seen us in the community passing out refrigerator magnets and stickers.  Our team of multimedia journalists is pounding the pavement getting to know our neighbors. We call it journalism by walking around.

WHY IS IT CALLED BUCKET LIST COMMUNITY CAFE?

Our publisher, Vicky Collins is a television news producer. She imagined that when she was ready for a change, her next act would be owning a coffee shop/bookstore/photo gallery. This was on her bucket list.  She decided to create a community site online and called it Bucket List Community Café.  She loves the aspirational name and imagined a place where people can swap stories and learn what’s going on in their community.  We have been growing ever since. Bucket List Community Café is positive, solutions journalism and leans toward social justice.  We see everyone as our neighbor and are here to help you get to know one another.

OUR TEAM

Bucket List Community Café has a team of student interns and recent graduates from the University of Colorado at Boulder, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the University of Denver, that aspire to be multimedia journalists and journalism entrepreneurs.  We have recognized that many students leaving universities are not prepared for the rigors of the newsroom and we are working to address that pain point. Our journalists are interns and apprentices and move from Bucket List into excellent jobs. We also offer scholarships to BIPOC journalists so they can prioritize their journalism.  We have a diverse group that represents different voices in our community.  Our goal is to make sure everyone is heard and sees themselves in the news, our website, Facebook and Instagram, our weekly newsletter and monthly podcast.

SPONSORSHIPS

Bucket List Community Café is community inspired and supported.  We are journalism innovators and entrepreneurs that raise money through grants, community fundraising and sponsorships.  We work with small business and non-profit sponsors to tell their stories in a way that is trustworthy and organic for our audience.  A rate card with sponsorship opportunities is on our website, and our pitch deck with latest analytics are available by contacting vicky@teletrendstv.com.  We have a branded content certificate and you will see a sponsored content tag on these stories to set them apart from our journalism.  What you won’t see are ads, paywalls, subscriptions, memberships and barriers to access.  Bucket List Community Café is free to all.
