Building a community

It takes time to build a community. Bucket List Community Cafe has been on Facebook for over six months. We have 300 dedicated followers and have reached many thousands with our posts about news, events, culture and what makes Northside Denver so special. That doesn’t seem very significant, but in that time we’ve been connected to so many people who are quietly working to make a difference around here; people behind our residential neighborhood associations, our local businesses, our civic leaders, our members of the press who believe in hyperlocal journalism. We’ve caught the attention of the larger press broadcasts and publications in the state. Most importantly, we’ve talked to our neighbors from Regis to West Colfax and Edgewater to Elyria-Swansea.

Especially during this time of coronavirus and uncertainty, we’ve tried to point out what is going on in our area, as well as how our community is reacting to it. Many others are covering the state and nation. Our focus has been on the things that are affecting and inspiring the people of Northside Denver. Bucket List Community Cafe has a mantra of journalism by walking around and during this time of social distancing we have relied on many individuals and organizations to share their news and we are grateful to be on your email list. Members of the community know Bucket List Community Cafe will get on it.

These are challenging times for everyone. People are working from home. Children are learning from home. Parents are teaching from home. Our elderly are alone at home. And everyone is concerned about the future. We hope you will continue to look at Bucket List Community Cafe as a light and a resource during these dark days. It is so strange to look out the window on a beautiful spring day and know there is this cloud hanging over us. But now more than ever we need community and connection. Please share Bucket List Community Cafe with your friends and neighbors. Please share your information and concerns with us. We will get on it and we will get through it. Best, Vicky and Ca$h
